nopCommerce to CommerceEDGE – Migration that Ushered Growth for the Business & Joy for its Buyers
Industrial apparel
Distributor
United States
Our client happens to be a uniform distributor dealing in industrial and fire-rescue uniforms. They have been helping industrial companies outfit their workforce in branded apparel to ensure their employees are safe and easily identifiable in the line of duty. From creating standalone uniform stores to large-scale uniform programs – the distributor was managing their complete ecommerce operations through nopCommerce, an open-source SaaS ecommerce platform built on ASP.net.
Being an open-source platform, it was prone to security vulnerabilities and prevented them from onboarding large national clients with strict vendor security protocols. Besides, hosting charges were to be borne entirely by the distributor and there were only a handful of company-certified vendors to go with.
On the other hand, platform enhancements were dependent largely on the community of developers using nopCommerce. If they needed a particular uniform feature, they either had to partner with third-party developers who were hands-on with the nopCommerce code base or wait for the community developers to release the update. This often led to delayed implementation and poor customer experience
Security vulnerabilities of a typical open-source software
High hosting cost and go-to-market time
Slow/lack of innovation
Limited uniform-centric features
Migrating to CommerceEDGE helped our client leave all the above challenges behind and drive business growth through better customer experience and reduced cost of operations.
As a proprietary ecommerce platform built exclusively for uniform providers, we were able to provide all uniform management features out of the box as opposed to nopCommerce where they had to custom code everything from scratch with the help of third-party developers. This helped them create hyper-personalized uniform ordering experiences for their clients that further increased sales and customer satisfaction.
We also took over the hosting responsibilities, which helped reduce tech overheads for our client. From a security standpoint too, CommercePORTAL fared better because we continue to own the code base, and any customizations needed to manage uniform programs were implemented by our in-house development team
